Busting through the top 3 gardening excuses of starting a garden.
Spring is fast approaching and before you know it the birds will be returning from the south and leaves will begin to bud again. Spring is one of my favorite times of the year as the promise of summer is approaching and daylight hours are beginning to lengthen. Soon the sun will warm up the soil and gardens will be ready to be planted. But don't let these three common gardening myths or excuses hold you back this year. There is no better time to begin your vegetable garden then now. With the uncertainty of the world and soaring food prices the skills of growing your own food could not come at a better time. Are one of these myths holding you back??
The reality of it is, we all have the same 24 hours in a day. The questions we need to evaluate are, "What are you spending your time on?" and "Is what I am doing right now important and profitable to get me to the goals that I desire for my life?" We make time for the things that are important to us. What is important to you??
Oftentimes when we think of growing a garden, we envision a large garden plot with lots of straight rows of vegetables. But this doesn't have to be the only way that gardens are grown. Have you ever thought of adding a few vegetables to a flower bed? What about a tomato or cucumber in a pot on your patio? Then there's that window box that happens to be in the shade and flowers just don't seem to do well there. What would it do if you added some lettuce or spinach to it. Gardening is an art. If you don't have a larger area to plant then find those little areas that you might be able to add a couple plants of your favorite produce. Starting small and manageable is key to having success with your first garden.
While there is a lot to learn with gardening, that is no excuse to not start. There is a lot to learn when you start any kind of large venture. Just think about when you first started driving. There was so much to learn and gain experience and confidence with but that didn't stop you from trying. The key to success is to start small and learn the basics. Begin with a few easy plants that don't require a lot of extra knowledge. Once you have mastered those plants then next year you can add a few more plants and try some different varieties. Knowledge has become very easy to access in our current age of technology. All you have to do is look up something on the internet, read an article, or watch a youtube video to begin gaining the skills that you need. If you are ready to begin learning about gardening, I have put together a basic essentials gardening e-book that you can access here.
